Albert Einstein born

On March 14, 1879, revolutionary physicist Albert Einstein is born in Ulm, Germany. His theories of special and general relativity drastically altered man's view of the universe and his work in particle and energy theory helped make possible quantum mechanics and, ultimately, the atomic bomb. He later
deplored the bomb's use on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and became an advocate for the international control of nuclear technology. Einstein's theory of special relativity denied the existence of absolute time and space, and his general relativity theory led to a new concept of gravity. He ultimately failed in his attempt to find a unified field theory to encompass gravitation, subatomic phenomena, and electromagnetism, but his earlier achievements had already earned him a place among the most creative
minds in human history. He died in the United States in 1955.
